The Supreme Court has issued show-cause notices to all office-bearers of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee regarding a controversial social media post targeting Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Posted on October 12 from the official X handle of Congress Kerala and later deleted, the message demanded the CJI's resignation over law and order remarks. During the hearing, a bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and Vipul M Pancholi strongly emphasized that judicial independence cannot be compromised for political convenience, adding that freedom of expression does not permit the intimidation of judges. The apex court also questioned whether the party's apology was genuine, asking if it came from the heart. Furthermore, the court has appointed an amicus curiae and sought assistance from the Attorney General to examine the matter further.

The Supreme Court issued show-cause notices to all office-bearers of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee over a deleted social media post targeting Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. The post, shared from the official X account of Congress Kerala on October 12, urged the CJI to resign, saying “If law and order is not your domain, resign now. We will find your replacement.” A bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and Vipul M Pancholi stressed that the independence of the judiciary is not a matter of political convenience and that freedom of expression cannot be used as a shield for intimidation. The court questioned the sincerity of the party’s apology and asked whether it came “from the pen or from the heart,” while appointing an amicus curia and seeking the Attorney General’s assistance.
