Delhi Police detained several Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including prominent figures Atishi and Neha Bora, during a protest at Jantar Mantar on Friday. The demonstrators had gathered in the national capital to demand the immediate arrest and resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. According to a senior police official, the demonstration was completely unauthorized as the organizers failed to file any application or obtain prior permission from the authorities. Citing the lack of legal approval, police personnel intervened and removed the protesters from the site to maintain public order. The preventive detentions led to a brief political stir in the city as opposition leaders condemned the police action against their peaceful gathering.
