Kanwar Yatra boosts UP's Economy: ₹ 1500 Crore Turnover Supports The Goal Of $1Trillion Economy
The annual Kanwar Yatra has emerged as a major economic driver for Uttar Pradesh, generating a massive business turnover of approximately ₹1,500 crore this season. Millions of Shiva devotees, dressed in saffron and carrying decorative Kanwars, travelled across the state, chanting religious hymns. This massive influx of pilgrims has significantly boosted local trade, benefitting small vendors, transport operators, hotel owners, and handicraft artisans along the designated routes. State authorities implemented extensive security arrangements, traffic diversions, and civic facilities to manage the unprecedented gathering smoothly. Economists note that this seasonal religious tourism plays a crucial role in empowering grassroots commerce and generating employment. The thriving commercial activity during the pilgrimage aligns directly with the state government's ambitious vision of transforming Uttar Pradesh into a one-trillion-dollar economy by encouraging cultural and religious tourism across various districts.
The massive crowd, clad in saffron robes, carrying attractive Kanwars on their shoulders, and the thunderous chants of "Har Har Mahadev" and "Bol Bam," not only symbolizes public faith but also emerges as a powerful indicator of the state's economic progress. Varanasi, Prayagraj, Mathura, Ayodhya, Vindhyachal, and other local religious sites are strengthening Uttar Pradesh's economy through religious tourism. The Kanwar Yatra is proving to be a vital link in that vast chain. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has provided extensive resources to ensure a safe and global presence for this Yatra, rooted in the long-term commitment to transform Uttar Pradesh into a $1 trillion economy.
