"Law And Order Not My Domain": Chief Justice On Protests Against Poll Body | Capital TV

1 min read

During a recent interaction in New Delhi, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant addressed concerns regarding the ongoing demonstrations against the poll body in the national capital. The CJI explicitly stated that maintaining law and order and managing such situations fall outside the purview of the judiciary. This response came after political leader Rahul Gandhi approached the Supreme Court regarding the administrative issues. The top court advised that instead of submitting a memorandum on the administrative side, it would be far more appropriate to invoke the formal judicial powers of the Supreme Court to address the grievances properly. The judiciary emphasized its constitutional boundaries while guiding the leadership on the correct legal procedures to seek appropriate redressal for their concerns in the apex court.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant has made it clear that the situation arising out of recent protests in Delhi was "not his domain". The CJI told Rahul Gandhi that it would be more appropriate to invoke the judicial powers of the Supreme Court, instead of submitting a memorandum on the administrative side.
