Cornering PM Modi became a crisis for the protest itself

1 min read

The Supreme Court on Friday issued a significant directive to the Central Government regarding upcoming protests planned by the CJP and opposition parties against the Chief Election Commissioner on October 10. Hearing a petition filed by senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Prashant Bhushan, the bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Bagchi ordered authorities not to completely halt train services to the national capital or shut down Metro stations. Representing the Centre, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta presented arguments on security measures. The apex court emphasized that while security and public order are crucial, restrictions must be proportional and regulated to prevent severe inconvenience to the general public. The court's intervention aims to balance citizens' rights to peaceful demonstration with uninterrupted daily transit across Delhi.
