Punjab Congress Crisis: Congress Removed Bhupesh Baghel & Appointed Sachin Pilot As In-Charge, Why?

1 min read

The Indian National Congress has implemented significant organizational changes in Punjab ahead of upcoming political developments. The party leadership has removed Bhupesh Baghel from his role as the state in-charge and appointed senior leader Sachin Pilot to take over the responsibility. This high-level reshuffle aims to strengthen the party's organizational structure and improve coordination among local leaders in Punjab. Sachin Pilot brings considerable political experience to the crucial role, having previously managed successful party affairs in other states. The transition comes at a critical time as the party prepares for future electoral challenges and seeks to resolve internal differences within the state unit. Bhupesh Baghel, who previously held the responsibility, will reportedly be assigned alternative organizational duties.

Congress has made a major organisational change in Punjab, with Sachin Pilot stepping in as the new party in-charge and Bhupesh Baghel moving out. Ex CM Baghel was appointed Punjab Congress in-charge in February 2025 and had backed the continuation of Raja Warring as Punjab Congress chief. However, his role increasingly became a point of contention among rival factions within the state unit, including the camp associated with Charanjit Singh Channi.
