SC Issues Contempt Notice to Kerala Congress Over Post Targeting CJI Surya Kant |Dr. Manish Kumar
The Supreme Court has issued show-cause contempt notices to all office-bearers of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee following a controversial social media post targeting Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Posted on October 12 from the party's official X handle, the now-deleted message demanded the CJI's resignation, stating that law and order was not his domain. During the hearing, a bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and Vipul M Pancholi emphasized that judicial independence is not a matter of political convenience and that free speech cannot justify intimidation. The bench expressed skepticism regarding the sincerity of the party's apology, questioning whether it came from the heart. Additionally, the court appointed an amicus curiae and sought assistance from the Attorney General to examine the matter further as proceedings continue.
