SC Vedict on CJP’s October 10 Jantar Mantar Protest: Setback For Dipke & Dhruv Rathee!| Dr.Manish Kr
The Supreme Court on Friday directed the central government not to completely halt train services to Delhi or close metro stations ahead of the planned October 10 protests by the CJP and opposition parties against the Chief Election Commissioner. Hearing a petition raised by senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Prashant Bhushan, a bench comprising Justices Surya Kant and Bagchi emphasized that any restrictions must be regulated and based on the principle of proportionality to prevent undue public inconvenience. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta presented the response on behalf of the Centre. The court noted that while maintaining law and order is crucial, complete shutdowns of public transport infrastructure disproportionately affect citizens and regular commuters. The bench instructed authorities to adopt balanced security measures rather than imposing blanket blocks during the upcoming demonstration in the national capital.
