The Supreme Court of India has issued five key directives to the authorities concerning barricades and public movement restrictions around the court premises. This judicial intervention comes in the wake of the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) protest held at Jantar Mantar in the national capital. While emphasizing that citizens hold a fundamental right to peaceful and lawful protest, the apex court bench underscored that daily access for lawyers, litigants, and the general public must not be obstructed. Consequently, the court ordered the immediate removal of unnecessary barricading and the withdrawal of restrictive measures. Furthermore, official notices have been served to the Delhi Police, the Union Home Secretary, and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Authorities have been instructed to submit a comprehensive compliance report by Tuesday, detailing the recent detentions and the rationale behind the stringent traffic and security curbs.

It stressed lawful protest and access for lawyers, issued notices to Delhi Police, the Union Home Secretary and DMRC, and sought a compliance report by Tuesday over detentions and restrictions.
